A Vibrant Country Christian Communiy
Est. in 1927

Metcalfe St. Andrew's United Church is a vibrant active church community. As a community we arrange different social events that engage both young and old. From Curling Tournaments to Church Suppers to Community Easter Egg Hunts, Metcalfe has something for everyone. The Church has a beautiful sanctuary. Warm wooden walls, high ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows welcome all to enter. Metcalfe offers a traditional service weekly, incorporating scripture and music from Voice's United and More Voices hymnals. We have a small choir and a phenomenal Sunday School with crafts and stories to keep the young ones engaged. Please join us on a Sunday and become a part of our Christian Community. Our worship services are recorded and available on CD and via the link on the website.
We honour the rich history of our church and look forward with gratitude and joy. We are pleased to announce we have two rotational ministers, who will guide and support our congregation in the spirit of unity and renewal. Rev. Ed Barbezat Rev. Bruce Peterkin We extend our heartfelt thanks to both ministers for joining us in this journey. Their presence and leadership are a blessing, and we are excited for the spiritual growth and community connection that lies ahead. We embrace the future with faith, hope, and love.

Victoria Vander Linden recently became a part of our church family as our Music Director. Victoria's love of music, her deep faith, and her experience at the keyboard enrich our Sunday Worship.

Martha is Metcalfe's lead administrator and head cheerleader! If there is a church activity Martha will be actively leading it. Martha's enthusiasm is a great boon for Metcalfe and her infectious spirit will be sure to rub off on you. Be sure to contact Martha for more information on church life and upcoming events at Martharobertson@magma.ca.

Come meet our dedicated Sunday School teachers: Nelda Isaac and Jackie Hutt. Their passion and care help create a nurturing space where young minds can explore faith, ask questions, and build lasting friendships.

In the 1900s Metcalfe St. Andrew's United Church was formed as a continuation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and Victoria Street Methodist Church. Both congregations can trace their beginnings back to the year 1832, but by the 1920s both churches were finding it difficult to maintain their separate buildings and to meet the operating costs. The churches came together by the action of the Ottawa Presbytery on February 20, 1927. St. Andrew's church, being the larger, was named home upon union. The Presbyterians: The Presbyterians built their first church in 1838 at Spring Hill. Growth continued in Osgoode Township, and a second church was built in Metcalfe in 1856 near the site of the present United Church. In 1895, further expansion prompted the building of the present church. The Methodists:The history of the Methodist Church in Metcalfe tells of three churches. The first small log structure was replaced by two larger structures over the years. The last in 1853, was a frame building, known as the Victoria Street Methodist Church. This church was situated on the present site of the Union Cemetery. In 1922, the Methodists purchased the former Baptist Church, a brick structure located on the south-west side of Victoria Street in Metcalfe Village. Services continued to be held here until union in 1927. The Congregationalists: On October 23, 1927 the Blair Congregational Church congregation left Blair School to join with Metcalfe St. Andrew's United Church.
